Brewing Fresh, Brewing Clean

10 years ago when I arrived in this great city of Toronto, I didn’t see coffee as I see it today.  Believe it or not I couldn’t understand what the big deal was with everybody walking around with coffee in their hands and every minute was an excuse to go for coffeeeeeeeee!  At the office with every meeting, at a casual get-together, something to do in the evening, coffee was in.  Toronto being a multicultural city there was no escaping coffee, no matter where in the city you are, be it Little Italy or shopping at Kensington market there’s always a little shop to stop for coffee.  So of course being surrounded by this coffee mania I was invited to have my first coffee, not just any coffee, No, an espresso.  WOW!,  I thought what a jolt! Being my first time (having the espresso, that is) I added sugar (lots of it) just to speed things up today I drink it double shot short and black (my espresso) for those whom I may have lost along the way.  So looking back did I just join the masses who need their coffee fix, a way to keep warm during the long, cold winter months or was it something different for me, something personal?  Coffee is like wine to me, it’s not something you can get just anywhere, at any location.  There’s a specific flavour, a clean brew, a fresh brew,  an aroma you crave and enjoy.  Today I still go back and visit the little place where I was served my first espresso and still feel like its the first time (no hello, no smile) just a good coffee. Of course I cannot reveal the location of this place, it’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that the name of this place indicates a real estate office but yet I walk in and I’m in a coffee shop and well until today I’m not sure what the connection between the name and the actual shop is.  So for this reason and maybe all the interesting and complicated things I’ve overheard while having my espresso and because  I fear for my life I will leave it at that.  So today I invite you to take the time to enjoy great coffee with your loved ones.  Chao!  Share your coffee stories with me.

First off, I would like to thank the St. Clair West neighbourhood, families and friends of CocoaLatte for embracing our family.  And for allowing us to share our passion for simple food and our love for great coffee.  Oh! and who can forget our desserts.  We think that you deserve a place that you can have great moments spent with friends and family.  This past year has allowed us to meet so many great people and these great people that we now know by name.  A large web that continues to spread.  The care and quality of service we provide with such great pride, only leads us to determine one thing: we are pleased to be “Your neighbourhood Cafe” and work harder in continuing to offer you our very best.  During this new year we are even more committed to introducing new items and developing our menu even further.  We stride to provide the best to our clients and keeping their health as our number one priority.  You who do know us, are probably aware of how busy we are working on projects and have since opened “Clay” a new boutique that offers many items for the home and more specifically for the kitchen.  A true extension of our passion of CocoaLatte “from our kitchen to yours”.  Clay is just 3 doors down and like CocoaLatte open daily to serve you.  And so if after reading you feel “oops, where have I been?” “who is CocoaLatte? Clay?”  Well now we give you 2 new reasons to visit the strip, a excuse to shop and indulge.  We welcome you to stop by and say “hello”.  Come meet the CocoaLatte Team! And finally we would like to wish the families of St. Clair West and awesome 2011!

Our one year anniversary is approaching ! And everyone is invited.

Toronto’s Newest Treasure

Hello cocoalatte readers, my name is Brooke Daprato and am your official cocoalatte blogger. Being a fairly recent addition to cocalatte I have been exposed to a entirely new world filled with positivity, hard work and incredible coffee. My relationship with cocoalatte began when my mother and I stumbled into this hidden gem in search of a coffee shop that shared the same passion for coffee and fresh foods as I did. For you see I have been involved in a lengthy, delicious relationship with the infamous coffee bean and Starbucks mass-produced products no longer cut if for me. After my first encounter with this coffee utopia I was immediately converted to a cocoalatte enthusiast going on a daily basis in order to obtain my coffee fix. Although from outside cocoalatte appears to be a miniscule almost nonexistent place, it becomes impossible to miss upon experiencing their espressos, americanos and fresh foods. Never before had I come across a place as willing to serve a superior product with such sincerity, a mandate extended to their food menu, offering only fresh produce and prepared products made specifically for cocoalatte. The day I was offered to opportunity to work for this inimitable place was a day like any other day, I had gone in to get a coffee (and a smile, for there is never a moment where the owners and employees are not smiling or joking), one of the owners was cashing me out and casually asked if I needed a job. I was desperately seeking employment as I had just returned from my third year at Mcmaster for Art History and pounced on this employment prospect. After a quick interview the two couples who owned cocoalatte joyously informed me that I was now apart of the cocalatte family and have felt an overwhelming sense of embracement since that moment. Treasures come in various sizes and packages and are found in the most unlikely of places, a concept no different for cocoalatte. Although more and more Toronto is being festered with small coffee shops, such as Ezra’s Pound, Petite Gourmet and Faema, this tiny Toronto treasure is filled with irreplaceable welcoming vibes and an unbeatable cup of drip coffee. So lets all lift up our coffee mugs to toast cocoalatte for bringing Toronto its latest and greatest bean.

What does coffee mean to you?
